Daylen Kountz and Bodie Hume help UNC basketball to success

Homegrown players Daylen Kountz and Bodie Hume have impressed in Northern Colorado this season.

GREELEY, Colo. – Northern Colorado is now doing well in conference play.

Denver East High School alum Daylen Kountz and Sterling’s Bodie Hume led the Bears to first place in the Big Sky Conference.

“It’s not something we saw a lot last year,” Hume said. “Last year we weren’t the best team, so to get a few wins was just great to see.”

Kountz added: “We shoot the ball really well from three, but we also have strengths everywhere.”

Kountz and Hume actually grew up together playing club basketball and both say it’s really special to babysit together for the Bears.

“It was nice to have someone you know and someone you can be around every day since you were in high school,” Hume said.

“We used to always connect on our lobs and now we try to get that back and just play off each other. We compliment each other really well,” Kountz said.

Compliments are kind of their thing, “His [Daylen’s] fade away jumpers are pretty unmatched if I may say,” Hume joked.

Northern Colorado tries to make sure they are always in the running for the best basketball in the state.

“We’re hometown kids. We want to show that Colorado has hoopers just like any other state,” Kountz said.

“It was fun to watch us grow and how Colorado basketball is getting more and more popular,” Hume says.

The goal of UNC is a conference title and an NCAA tournament bid. To achieve that for a school in Colorado as homegrown kids would be awesome.

“It’s a great opportunity for us to think and really think about where we’re coming from and ultimately the people around us, the Colorado fans who come to watch UNC play, are just trying to make them happy too.” said Hume.
