The two vehicles couldn’t be more different from each other, but that doesn’t stop the drivers from going head-to-head on the strip.
A Turbo Can-Am rebelled against a Chevrolet C7 Corvette in an unconventional drag race, and fans of classic sports cars will definitely want to see how it goes. The team of Drag Racing and Car Stuff on YouTube presented this epic drag race and the winner may surprise you.
The cars make for an unusual drag race
In this quarter-mile race, a Turbo Can-Am takes on a beastly sports car, the Chevrolet C7 Corvette. They look totally unconventional to race against each other when sitting at the starting line. Not only does the Turbo Can-Am have huge 32-inch wheels, but it also has no windows. Fans of these vehicles would expect this, but a classic Corvette that competes against an ATV, for example, is quite rare.
The Turbo Can-Am can often top out at around 200, which is quite punchy due to its Rotax Turbo RR engine. In addition, the Chevrolet C7 Corvette features an all-new LT1 6.2-liter Small Block V8 engine that develops 455 horsepower. So the Corvette already has a huge advantage.
The C7 gets the slower start
After regrouping at the start, the Turbo Can-Am gets off to an incredible start by throwing some wheelies and almost keeping up with the C7 Corvette. The cars go full throttle all the time and hardly leave each other. But the real winner, of course, is the one who manages to hold onto the entire quarter mile faster.
The winner is the C7 Corvette, with a time of 11.5 seconds at a speed of 222.73 mph. The Turbo Can-Am manages to keep up pretty well, but doesn’t quite get there. It reaches the quarter mile in 12.17 seconds with a top speed of 81.33 mph. The Turbo Can-Am does a great job, but the C7 Corvette has a huge advantage with its huge engine and immense horsepower.
In summary, the unconventional drag race is entertaining to say the least. Seeing these cars fighting each other in a drag race is something you don’t see every day. The Turbo Can-Am does a good job staying right next to the Corvette. However, the C7 Corvette manages to finish first by an incredible time.
Chevy has officially confirmed that the C8.R will have a 5.5-liter flat-plane crank V8, and race rules require it to be in a production model as well.
