tBoreham Bill’s 66-1 success in last season’s Lanzarote Hurdle at Kempton Park put a damper on the bookmakers, but this has been a good race for punters in general since the journey was extended in 2007, with slightly raced, improved hurdlers who took a clear position ahead of more experienced handicappers.
Marie’s Rock, Gelino Bello and Green Book all arrive with the right profile for Saturday’s revamp, representing major stables that have sent off a Lanzarote winner for the past six years.
Jamie Snowden’s Up for Parol (2.40), however, has just as much of a chance as it does on paper and appears to have crept slightly under the radar around 8-1.
Like several recent winners of this race, Up For Parol had a disappointing attempt at hunting earlier in the campaign but put a career best back on the hurdles at Haydock in December and is now just 6lbs higher. He’s yet to race this journey, but he’s bred to improve for the step up and won a three-mile point-to-point in Ireland as a four-year-old.
Warwick 1.18 Have seen two comfortable wins Brave Seasca up 16 pounds in ratings but he had plenty on his hands at Ascot last time and a quick hat-trick is likely.
Kempton 1.32 Foxboro could very well win but for a fault at the last fence at Wincanton in December and he would have to close a 1lb higher point here.
Warwick 1.50 A 5lb penalty probably isn’t enough to stop threeunderthrufive taking a fourth win from five starts over fences.
Kempton 2.05 All four runners go to the post with a serious chance but eldorado all has consistency on his side and came well behind First Flow at Huntingdon last time.
Warwick 2.25 A first-class renewal of this freshman hurdle with deer horn, rated 103 on the Flat, marginally preferred around 9-2 to support a successful hurdles debut at Hereford in December. He won there with something to spare and has been neutered ever since.
Warwick 3.00 padleyourowncanoe made a solid return to action over hurdles after 452 days off last month. Dan Skelton’s runner had a promising course over fences for Colin Tizzard in 2020 and should be going well around 7-1.
Kempton 3.15 More negatives than positives for some of these, so maybe the veteran? double shuffle, who has an excellent track record on the track and on the journey may be looking to repeat his win in this race – from a 1 pound lower mark – last year.
Warwick 3.35 Sporty John was only fourth when he was last sent off 5-4 at Cheltenham, but the top two at home there have since franked the form and he remains passable based on his win in November.
