Valerie Every Named Interim Head Volleyball Coach

BRUNSWICK, Ga. – The College of Coastal Georgia Athletics Department is pleased to announce that Valerie Every has been named interim head coach of the Mariners Volleyball team.

Director of Athletics William Carlton said: “We are delighted to announce Val Every as our Interim Head Coach for Volleyball. Having served as an Assistant Coach with our team for the past two seasons, she has strong relationships with our current players, understands She meets the needs of the team, and as a result of the time she has spent on the team, she is way ahead of anyone we hired for this position.Coach Every has a solid volleyball background and will bring new energy and enthusiasm to the team .”

Every has been the director of sports information and marketing at the College of Coastal Georgia since June 2019. During that time, she took on additional duties and responsibilities in the athletics department that led her to this new role. In the 2020 and 2021 seasons, Every was an assistant coach with the Volleyball program. Her focus as a coach was on wing and right turning batters, as well as mental strength and development during those two seasons. She also established goal setting and practice evaluation programs for the team. Elke also took on the role of co-advisor to Coastal Georgia’s Student-Athlete Leadership Team during the 2021-22 school year.

Prior to her time at the College of Coastal Georgia, Every was a high school volleyball coach at Stevens Point Area Senior High for three years. She helped the team to its first Conference Championship in 18 years and a regional final in the 2018 Wisconsin State Tournament hunt while at Stevens Point Area Senior High Every served the additional role of strength and conditioning coach for athletes of all sports.

Elke played volleyball for the UW-Stevens Point National Collegiate Volleyball Federation team while earning her bachelor’s degree in communications with an emphasis on public relations and media studies. Not only did her team qualify for the Sweet 16 of the National Championship Tournament all four seasons she played, but her team also finished as National Runners-Up in the Division I AAA in her senior season in 2019. Every was a three-time All – Wisconsin Volleyball Conference roster as a setter and a rightside hitter. She was team captain for two seasons.

Since joining Coastal Georgia, Every has completed her master’s degree in sports management from Georgia Southern.

Director of Athletics Carlton added: “Coach Every knows our staff and administrative systems so will have a relatively easy transition into those aspects of serving as head coach. Most importantly, she is an effective communicator who maintains high standards and unquestioned integrity. her new role. I am confident that she will be a capable leader for the team and will continue to build on the record of excellence our team consistently demonstrates, both on the field and on campus.”

“I am extremely excited and honored to step into this interim role,” said Coach Every, “My hopes by taking up the position of Head Coach will maintain some continuity with the returning Mariners Volleyball Team in our development and training, so we can build on the successes we had last season instead of starting from scratch. I’m going to give my all for the young women on this team, the Coastal Georgia Athletic Department and the Coastal Georgia fans.”

In addition to coaching, Every will retain her current duties as Director of Sports Information and Marketing until the end of June 2022, at which point she will continue to coach and also oversee marketing and external relationships for the Mariners’ Department of Athletics. .
