INDIANAPOLIS – The IUPUI swim and dive teams will host three events this weekend, starting with a double dive against Ball State on Thursday (Jan. 20) at 2:00 PM, followed by women’s swim on Friday (Jan. 21) vs. Butler and Indiana State at 2 p.m. The Jags will wrap up the weekend with a men’s and women’s swim on Saturday (Jan. 22) against Valparaiso at 12:00 p.m. when they celebrate Seniors Day.

The Jags will finally be back in the pool after their last meeting was canceled due to Covid-19 protocol. The last time IUPUI competed was on November 20 at the House of Champions, where multiple athletes set personal and school records.

The IUPUI Dive Team kicks off the weekend on Thursday with a view to Ball State. freshman Alex Scott will take the lead in platform diving after taking first place in men’s platform diving during the House of Champions. sophomore Sadie Smith leads the women’s team with top placings at the House of Champions, fourth in the women’s 1m dive and second in the 3m dive.

On Friday, the women’s team jumps back into the pool to take on Butler and Indiana State. The Jags defeated Butler, 160-70, to kick off the season on September 26 and faced them again at the House of Champions. IUPUI last faced Indiana state in 2017 when they defeated the Sycamores 158-128. striking freshmen, Emmaleigh Zielow will be hard to beat in the 500 and 1650 free after posting top times in the Horizon League during the House of Champions with a time of 4:54.00 in the 500 and 17:07.57 in the 1650. Lauren Thompson also tops the Horizon League with a time of 55.67 in the 100 backstroke and 2:00.87 in the 200 back. The women’s team looks set to improve their record to 6-3 before heading into Saturday’s session against Valparaiso.

Both the men’s and women’s teams will race against Valparaiso on Saturday at noon. The Jags last faced Valpo on September 26, when the women’s team defeated the Beacons 177-44, while the men’s team won 196-40. freshman Logan Kelly is ready to hit the pool again after setting top times in the 100 and 200 breaststroke at the House of Champions. He set a time of 53.25 in the 100 and 1:57.49 in the 200.

IUPUI will also recognize their seniors on Saturday. Those seniors include: Tyler Cunningham, Jason Harare, Riley Lohse, Dillon Strangeland, Caylee Hamilton and Grace Lupoic.
