The Boyle County Public Library offers many free activities for patrons of all ages. The library currently hosts Dinosaur Discovery, an exhibit featuring more than 120 fossils and castings from Dr. John Hankla curated collection. In addition to the exhibit, library visitors can also enjoy interactive activities such as craft projects, games, book clubs, and weekly story times. Here’s a closer look at some of the upcoming events at the library:
Teens can play video games in the library on Fridays from 4-5:20 PM. Fight with friends in Super Smash Bros or race in Mario Kart 8. This event is held on the 5th floor of the library. Masks are mandatory. (Age 13-18)
Visit the library on Saturday, January 15 from 2-4pm and enjoy an afternoon of chess and a hearty snack. This program is for all skill levels. This event takes place in the reading room. Masks are mandatory. (All ages)
On Tuesday, January 18, kids can make Snowman Snacks at home while following our how-to video. Kits can be picked up from Tuesday morning (while supplies last.) Kits can also be reserved with our Curbside Pickup service. Call the library at 859-238-7323 from the day the kits are available to request a kit using curbside pick-up and it will be set up in the roundabout for you. The video will premiere on the library’s YouTube channel. No registration required. (Age 5-8)
Master Builders: Dinosaurs
On Tuesday, January 18 from 4:30-6:00 PM, use your master builder STEM skills to build your own versions of dinosaurs. The stations will include play-doh skeleton models, LEGO dinosaur sets, and ‘take apart’ dinosaurs. This event takes place in the conference room. Masks are mandatory. (All ages/Family)
Crafts for Goalkeepers
This program series guides you through the process of making a craft that you get to keep. On Tuesday, January 18 at 6:00 PM we will make Book Wreaths. This event takes place in the conference room. Masks are mandatory. Additional supplies will be made in kits that will be available in the library lobby while supplies last. (age 18+)
Magic: The Gathering
On Thursday, January 20 from 4-7pm, the library will host Magic: The Gathering, a fun, fast-paced strategy card game from Wizards of the Coast. This event takes place in the Community Room of the library. Masks are mandatory. (age 13+)
On Saturday, January 22 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM, teens can play what some are calling the greatest role-playing game of all time. In this personal event, players will embark on campaigns that will test their ability to team up and defeat enemies in this tabletop adventure. Registration is required to play. Bookmarking Contest for Youth
The library is celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Newbery Medal, an annual award honoring children’s literature with a bookmarking contest. Youth 18 and under are invited to design a bookmark based on a favorite Newbery Medal book or character on the official bookmark form, which can be picked up at the library or downloaded from the library’s website at BoylePubLib .org/newbery100. Completed bookmark entries must be returned to the library no later than Saturday, January 22, before 5 p.m. The library staff will vote on the age group winners and the overall grand prize winner. Each age group winner and grand prize winner will have their bookmark design printed and available in the library.

Third Thursday morning book club
In January, the Beth Boffman book club reads Looking for Me. Copies of the book are available at the Lending Desk, while supplies last. The book discussion will take place on Thursday 20 January at 10:30 am in the Community Room. Masks are mandatory. (age 18+)
In January, Teen LibCrates discusses two books: The Darkest Minds and Never Fade by Alexandra Bracken. The personal meeting will take place on Tuesday 18 January at 6:00 PM in the multi-purpose room of the library on the 5th floor. Masks are mandatory. (Age 13-18)
This month, Tween LibCrates discusses two books: Twinchantment and the sequel Untwisted by Elise Allen, a fantasy duology series. Come to the Conference Room for the personal closing discussion on Thursday, January 27 at 4:30 PM. Masks are mandatory. (Age 9-13)
