B5Q Blogopean Union: Wisconsin Volleyball Team Named Awesome by Congress

Good morning! This will be a daily(ish) post discussing the ins and outs of the rest of the Big Ten conference, and the country where appropriate. Like the European Union, the Big Ten is a loosely connected group of entities that sometimes share the same goals (such as free movement of people between countries or not winning national titles in football or basketball) and sometimes accept new members that they later regret. have (Estonia or Nebraska).

We hope you will use this post to comment on things happening around the conference and also as a kind of daily open thread to get the latest news or arguing over spotted cow (which we DON’T DO ANY MORE).

  • Echoing our discussion on Thursday, UW acted quickly and appropriately in banning the racist fan from the Northwestern game.
  • Hockey goalkeeper Jared Moe has had a solid season and is on the waiting list for the Mike Richter Award, which has been presented annually since 2014 to the best goalkeeper in NCAA Division I men’s hockey.
  • Speaking of good goalkeepers, Kennedy Blair was also added to the National Goalie of the Year watch list.
  • Johnny Davis was named to the Sporting News Midseason All-America team. “It’s hard to remember a player who made a bigger leap in production from one year to the next. Davis joined an experienced team last season, averaging just 24 minutes and six shots per game. As a sophomore, he has increased his score average by nearly 216 percent. He was ranked as the No. 164 player in the 2020 recruiting class and is now one of the top five players in college basketball and a potential NBA Draft lottery pick. His game against Purdue and his dynamic second wing, Jaden Ivey, was arguably the best performance by a college player of the 2021-22 season. Gosh, what happened to the other 163 boys?’
  • In case you missed it yesterday, Wisconsin has a new, uh, old front line coach. Bob Bostad will take back control of the big boys up front after coaching the inside linebackers for the past several years.
  • Melvin Gordon will be looking for a new contract this off-season. My sources tell me the Miami Dolphins are a potential landing site.
  • The men’s team is having a great season. They are also an extremely volatile team as evidenced by this chart from blog friend Evan Miyakawa. If you’ve watched the Badgers for the past, well, two decades, you know they tend to go more than five minutes without scoring, but this year’s team will score just as well themselves!
  • This is a valuable way to spend eight minutes of your time today. Former Badger FB Alec Ingold and his family share his adoption story with NFL Films. My father, who is also a Wisconsin resident, was also adopted and when I sent this to him, he responded with a nice message that he had sent it to his sister (my aunt, who was adopted along with my father) and then noted that Ingold wore a Packers t-shirt as a toddler. Really locked up for the game against the 49ers this weekend.
  • Ties were completely waxed by Michigan on Thursday night.
  • Is Kelly Sheffield the only one getting bipartisan support in DC? People ask for it. Cool that UW alum, and CNN chief conference correspondent, Manu Raju was able to report on this.
