Did you know that just a few kilometers away there is a town with crystal clear waters and a white sand beach? But unfortunately it’s a ghost town here in Arkansas.
The small town of Okay Arkansas is only a 30-minute drive from Texarkana and it’s not just a ghost town, it has the most amazing feature: a white sand beach and crystal blue water.
Okay, Arkansas is home to a limestone mine that started in the late 1920s. You can see the view of the mill on the east side of Millwood Lake.

This factory had a small town built around it. The town had 40 houses, a church and even a railroad. The reason they wanted to build a factory in Arkansas was the state’s commitment to build better roads and bridges that would help transport the limestone out of the factory.

Many things were added to the town, including a meeting room, golf course, croquet field, baseball fields, tennis courts, and a general store.

As you can see in the photo, almost all the buildings have been demolished and the city is abandoned. By the early 1970s, only the factory, church, and factory manager’s house remained.

The factory finally closed in 1993 and all that remains are a few old streets and this incredibly blue lake with the most pristine white sand beaches.

This is the gateway to the factory and surrounding streets. It was clearly marked with a no trespassing sign.

There was a church just outside the gate. I wonder if this was part of the original city that once was.
