A compelling large-scale production, telling the history of the Emirate of Sharjah and chronicling the epic journey of performance over the past 50 years, is brought to life by more than 100 acclaimed performers and performers and accomplished crew members from around the world.
The grand 90-minute spectacle is hosted by the Sharjah Government Media Bureau (SGMB), produced by Al Majaz Amphitheater and performed by creative project company Multiple International in association with The 7 Fingers. The live show weaves episodes from the history of the emirate to create a compelling narration of the story of Sharjah – its time, place and people.
Philippe Skaff, the director of creation for the show, graduated in 1979 in Visual Arts from Laval University, Canada. Philippe is the creative architect and director of Africa First – the largest live show in Africa and Clusters of Light in Sharjah. He is also the author of The Concrete Republic and Between Day and Night.
The show is directed by Sebastien Soldevila, who has achieved success in live shows and is a five-time winner of the French National Championship. He has won several prestigious awards at the Festival Mondial Du Cirque De Demain, Paris. He directs Crystal – Cirque du Soleil’s first circus show on ice, and The Circus Princess, which has been nominated four times at the Golden Mask Awards in Russia.
A perfect match between performance and acrobatics for Narratives of the Place, choreographer Genevieve Dorion-Coupal has worked with celebrities such as Celine Dion, Gregory Charles and Luc Plamondon, and is the choreographer of Cirque du Soleil’s Love. Her shows are highly admired internationally due to her unparalleled artistic abilities.
The ensemble consists of performers and performers from the UAE, Canada, Brazil, USA, Cuba, France, Belgium and Slovenia. Many of them have earned international accolades, have performed in world-famous shows such as Cirque du Soleil and Broadway, and have served on the juries of several international festivals and competitions.
Four of the show’s team members have won Montreal’s most prestigious dance competition Révolution TV Show, and five of them participated in the 1001 Nights: The Last Chapter, presented in 2019 at the Al Majaz Amphitheater in Sharjah. Several other acrobats and performers making up the team have competed in and won celebrated TV shows, including France’s and Germany’s Got Talent, in addition to Cirque de Demain.
The cast of the ensemble will perform 11 symbolic scenes with a grand musical spectacle and stunning visual effects with the aim of introducing the audience to highlights of Sharjah’s history and its exceptional development journey to date.
