Tennis Falls to Louisville 5-2

LOUISVILLE, Kentucky – The University of Cincinnati tennis team lost 5-2 to Louisville on the road Friday afternoon at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.

Cincinnati moves the season to 0-2 and Louisville starts the season 1-0.

The doubles started with Ioana Guna and Emma Micelic losing in second place, followed by Callie Flanagan and Kelli Niehaus securing a 6-4 win over the number three spot. However Cassie McLay and Elizabeth Pendergast lost in an uphill battle in the number one spot to Louisville to take the double point.

Maria Santilli (2-0) scored her second consecutive singles win by single-handedly beating Dina Chaika in straight sets. Emma Micelic won her first singles match of the season and advanced to 1-1 in singles.

“A bit of a disappointing result today. We just weren’t as sharp as we were in our opener and it cost us. Make no mistake, Louisville was the better team today and the deserved winner, but we have enough talent in this squad to getting it done against a team of Louisville’s ability I see it every day in practice I believe Our girls just have to get up in these kind of games believe it and get it done We have to come out on Sunday and be ready to go against a much improved Dayton team. Everyone needs to be ready to go from the first point of the doubles and play well to get our first win.”
