Illinois Swim & Dive Prepares to Celebrate Its Seniors Against Nebraska

The Illini are preparing to showcase their seniors in their final home game of the 2021-2022 season.

Illinois hosts Nebraska in the ARC Pool at 11 a.m. Saturday

The Cornhuskers are 5-1 on the season and 2-1 in conference play, with a win over Iowa and a loss to No. 20 Minnesota.

Nebraska’s final swim match was on December 10 against the University of Nebraska-Omaha, with the Cornhuskers dominated by the Omaha Mavericks, 197-103.

While the Nebraska swim team has been training ever since, the dive team has been around the country and participated in two different dive invites.

Senior Sara Troyer represented the Cornhuskers at the USA Diving Winter Nationals in Bloomington, Indiana, finishing 22nd in the meet.

Troyer, along with sophomore Reagan Hinze and fellow senior Haille Roman, traveled to Los Angeles to participate in the UCLA Bruin Diving Invitational.

The diving trio all earned places in the final, with Hinze finishing 17th in the one meter and 18th in the three meters, Roman finishing 16th in the platform final and Troyer finishing third in the three meters and fifth in the one meter.

Illinois is 5-2 in the season and 1-1 in conference matches, with a win over Iowa and a loss to No. 17 Northwestern and Vanderbilt.

Illinois comes off a dominant win over Iowa to win 204-87.

The last time the Cornhuskers competed against the Illini was nearly a year ago on January 23, 2021, a 164-136 win at Illinois, giving them their only win of the season and their first win over the Cornhuskers since 2015.

The senior class, who have all played a part in rearranging the record books, will look to continue their historic season and career in Illinois, as well as reflect on their career in Illinois, along with friends, families, teammates and coaches.

The nine Illinois swimming and diving seniors are as follows:

Emily Bolger of Palatine, Illinois, majoring in chemical and biomolecular engineering

Abby Cabush from Sussex, Wisconsin, majoring in bioengineering

Maddy Crosby from Boerne, Texas, double major in psychology and communication

Kaylee Heimes of Quakertown, Pennsylvania, majoring in meteorology

Caroline Hippen from Verona, Wisconsin, majoring in Kinesiology

Sidney Kennedy of Bloomington, Illinois, majoring in Psychology

Abby Martin of Mason City, Illinois, majoring in Agriculture and Consumer Economics

Lauren Partridge from Cedar Park, Texas, majoring in Psychology

Taylor Shegos of Fenton, Michigan, majoring in interdisciplinary health sciences
