COLUMBIA, Mo. – Former University of Missouri Standout Alyssa Munlyn has been promoted to assistant coach, head coach Joshua Taylor announced on Friday.
Munlyn, a four-time American Volleyball Coaches Association All-American as a player, moves into an elevated recruiting role after serving as the Tigers volunteer assistant coach in 2021. She spent the 2019 and 2020 campaigns as Mizzou’s graduate assistant.
Additionally, current assistant coach Molly Taylor, will step into Munlyn’s former role as volunteer assistant coach.
“I am excited to promote Alyssa to full-time assistant,” Joshua Taylor said. “Her evolution as a coach these past couple years has been amazing to witness. She has a great mind for the game, a huge heart for our student-athletes and a tireless work ethic. She was one of the program’s greatest players and I have no doubt she’ll continue to have a tremendous impact on the program as a coach.”
“I’m filled with so much gratitude for the opportunity to continue working towards the aspirations and vision of this amazing program,” Munlyn said. “This team and staff are incredible. I have no doubt in my mind that the best has yet to come for this program, and I am extremely lucky and humbled to be a part of it.”
Munlyn was one of the nation’s most efficient attackers at middle blocker, ranking first all-time in Mizzou history with a .388 hitting percentage. Munlyn holds three of the program’s top 10 single-season hitting percentages, led by an outstanding .424 mark (second all-time) in 2016.
The Suwanee, Georgia, native still holds Mizzou’s top four single-season total block performances. Her sensational junior campaign in 2017 ranks as one of the best seasons in Mizzou history with a record setting 189 total blocks, 159 block assists and 1.44 blocks per set.
Munlyn jumped onto the national scene with a magnificent 2015 freshman campaign, tallying 241 kills on .357 hitting with 149 total blocks. She joined Carly Kan as the only Tigers in program history to earn both SEC Freshman of the Year and AVCA Southeast Region Freshman of the Year accolades.
The Tigers middle blocker was named AVCA Southeast All-Region and All-Southeastern Conference all four years in Mid-Missouri. Munlyn received 11 weekly awards from the SEC office over her career and was also named to the conference’s academic honor roll all four years.
