Big Rapids, Chippewa Hills bowlers have strong outings at jamboree

BIG RAPIDS – Big Rapids Bowling Center on Saturday hosted the second individual CSAA jamboree of the season.

“A bowling jamboree consists of bowlers bowling a total of six games,” Cardinal coach David Nawrot said.

The boys team was led by senior Johnny Cook, who had a 212 game as well as a six-game total of 978. Senior Gabe Myers had an 828. Third and fourth high for the team was Jordan Cook and Jace Heck, who had 814 series.

The girls team was only able to field four due to illness, Nawrot said. but was led by senior Emma Balahoski who had a six-game total of 601. Emma Watts had a 590 for her six games.

“The individual jamborees are a tough format with bowling six games at a time, but will pay dividends for the bowlers as we have regionals just over a month away,” Nawrot said. “The longer the day goes on the bowler has to battle not only the lane, and how the oil pattern is breaking down, but also a test to their physical, and mental game as well.

“It was great to see how the bowlers were able to respond to the event; however it also exposed some areas that we as a team need to improve on as we move forward this season.”

Big Rapids bowling will be on the lanes next Saturday Sheridan Lanes for a dual meet.
