Houston Tennis Begins Spring Schedule in College Station

HOUSTON- Houston Tennis traveled to College Station to kick off the spring season on Saturday at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center. The Cougars put up a hard fight against the No. 13-ranked Aggies, but came up short on the field.

The Cougars went on to compete in doubles for the first time, where the No. 5 ranked pair of Jayci Goldsmith and Tatiana Makarova defeated the Houston’s. Maria Dzemeshkevich and Azul Pedemontic. Houston’s second pair Blanca Cortijo Parreno and Laura Slisane opposed A&M’s Carson Branstine and Mary Stoiana.

DOUBLE RESULTS

1. #5 Jayci Goldsmith/Tatiana Makarova (TAMU) def. Maria Dzemeshkevich/Azul Pedemontic (HOLD) 6-0
2. Defeats Carson Branstine/Mary Stoiana (TAMU). B Cortijo Parreno/Laura Slisane (HOLD) 6-1
3. Jeanette Mireles/Gianna Pielet (GUEST) vs. Sophie Gerits/Gabriella Giraldo (HOU) 5-1, unfinished

At the end of the doubles, Houston entered the singles. The Cougars fought hard in hopes of getting a point on the board, but were defeated by the Aggies. However, the stiff competition favored Houston, as it seems to the rest of his opponents in the spring.

1. Carson Branstine (TAMU) defeats. Laura Slisane (HOLD) 6-1, 6-1
2. #122 defeats Tatiana Makarova (GUEST). Maria Dzemeshkevich (HOLD) 6-2, 5-7, 1-0
3. Mary Stoiana (GUEST) def. Azul Pedemontic (HOLD) 6-1, 6-2
4. Defeat Jayci Goldsmith (TAMU). B Cortijo Parreno (HOU) 6-2, 6-1
5. Gianna Pietet (GUEST) beats. Sophie Gerits (HOLD) 6-2, 6-2
6. Defeats Jeanette Mireles (TAMU). Gabriella Giraldo (HOU) 6-0, 6-2

NEXT ONE
Houston will host Louisiana Monroe at the Barbara Wallace Winston Tennis Facility next Friday at 10 a.m. The Cougars will be back at home at 10 a.m. the following day to receive McNeese State before traveling for the next two games.
