Lakers’ legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s NBA basketball scoring record is up for auction – NBC Los Angeles

Basketball Hall of Famer Kareem Abdul-Jabbar scored a lot of points in his 20-year NBA career. An NBA record of 38,387 to be exact, but who counts. Abdul-Jabbar’s last regular season game was on April 23, 1989. He scored 10 points against the Seattle Supersonics in a 121-117 Lakers win.

That would be the last points scored in Abdul-Jabbar’s illustrious career (excluding playoffs), and with that history in mind, he signed the match ball and wrote “Last Reg Season 4/89” along with his latest point total in his career. For 33 years that cue has been in and out of the hands of some of the most notorious collectors of memorabilia, but now it’s going up for auction again and is expected to sell for big money.

The last time the ball was auctioned, it sold for more than $270,000. This time it is expected to bring in more than half a million.

The ball is just one of many items that will be up for sale at the MINT25 Auction, an exclusive and unprecedented collection of 25 of the greatest and most iconic artifacts in sports history. Originally scheduled for an online run January 28-30, the auction, led by Lelands, will now take place March 25-27 in Las Vegas.

Among the many items on offer are a 2010 Tom Brady New England Patriots game-worn shirt, an autographed rookie card, Babe Ruth’s 1918 bat contact with Hillerich & Bradsby, and Michael Jordan’s 1988 game-worn Chicago Bulls jersey.
