Ash Barty’s connection to cricket
Ash Barty currently tops the WTA singles rankings. However, after reaching the doubles final in every Grand Slam championship in 2014, she decided to give up tennis altogether and play her craft in cricket. She spent 2015 playing professional cricket in Australia, most notably for the Brisbane Heat in the inaugural season of the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL). She decided to return to professional tennis in February 2016, a few weeks after the end of the WBBL. She finished 2017 in the top 20 of the WTA rankings for both doubles and singles.
