Alabama Women’s Tennis kicks off 2022 season with wins over Samford, Troy

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama women’s tennis team (2-0) opened the 2022 double-match season with a pair of wins Sunday, after taking 6-1 against Samford (1-1) and 7-0 against Troy (1-0) at the Roberta Alison Baumgardner Tennis Facility.

Alabama scored both doubles with the duo of Ola Pitak and Kasia Pitak 2-0 on the day. In singles, Anne Marie Hiser put on a strong show, dropping a total of two games and taking the first singles point in both games. Ola Pitak claimed the deciding point against the Bulldogs as Kasia Pitak secured victory against the Trojans.

Against the Bulldogs

  • Alabama took an early lead and won the double as Hiser and Loudmilla Bencheikh recorded an impressive victory on lane one, 6-0 against Rouxanne Janse Van Rensburg and Alexis Lopez
  • Ola Pitak and Kasia Pitak went 6-2 on lane three, beating Linday Song and Ally Hayduk for UA’s second double win and the 1-0 start
  • Hiser opened up singles action with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Song at number 5, while Petra Sedläckova top Alexis Lopez, 6-2, 6-0 at No. 3 for a 3-0 lead
  • The Bulldogs won on lane six to make it 3-1, but Ola Pitak recorded a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Samantha Nanere at number 2 for the match point
  • Alabama added victories on field one by Loudmilla Bensheikh, who defeated Janse Van Rensburg 6-4, 6-1, and field four by Anna Parkhomenko, who beat Sofia Zaprianov 6-2, 4-6, 1-0 (7). went

The Tide vs the Trojans

  • The Tide opened again with the double point as the Pitak sisters took a dominating 6-0 victory over Michelle Ncube and Kristina Kukaras at number 3 and Sedlackova and Parkhomenko went 6-1 against Chiara Desia Dabarno and Franziska Ahrend at number 2
  • Once again, Hiser flew through her match to take the first singles point, winning all 12 games against Olivia Elliott with a 6-0, 6-0 score

  • Sedlackova fought through a tiebreak in the third set to go 6-2, 4-6, 1-0 (5) against Ncube, while Bencheikh beat Anatasiia Khokhlova 7-5, 6-4 for number 1 singles and Ola Pitak went 7-5, 6-4 against Kristina Kukaras at number 2 singles
