Patrick Mahomes baseball

Mahomes’ ties to baseball come from his father, Pat Mahomes – who was a pitcher for such teams as the Minnesota Twins, Boston Red Sox and Chicago Cubs.

Born in 1995, Mahomes Jr. started playing football, baseball and basketball in high school.

He attended Whitehouse High School in his native Texas.

Patrick Mahomes got so good at baseball that several scouts attended his games to take charge of the teen.

His main position was shortstop, although he was also very good with the ball in hand – something of a trait there…

In his senior year, he produced a no-hitter with 16 strikeouts and was also handy with a bat and in the field.

Patrick Mahomes was predicted to be one of the first picks in the MLB draw when eligible.

Mahomes advances to MLB draft

In 2014, Patrick Mahomes attended the baseball game, although he was not expected to be selected for the MLB due to his football commitments.

The Detroit Tigers picked him up in the 37th round of the draft, although Mahomes did not sign a deal with them.

He had already promised his future to Texas Tech to play college football.

In the 2017 NFL draft, Mahomes was selected 10th overall by the Chiefs, originally as Alex Smith’s backup QB.

Smith was moved in 2018, allowing Mahomes to take over the starting QB slot.

Since then it’s been pretty good if you’re a fan of the Kansas City Chiefs…
