Harness Weekly Update: $199 Exacta Illuminated Toteboard

The weekly update of the TwinSpires harness blog covers our successes and failures of select features and the H2W (horses-to-watch list). H2W horses through the following Monday will appear in the results of the next update.

Thursday 20 January

This week’s Mohawk Miles contenders were the favourite Line drive Hanover ($3.40, $2.40, $2.40 OK) and Ask my secretary (24-1), who finished seventh to a 4-1 winner.

At Freehold we went for a Pick 3 and his legs with only one winner, burning desire ($3.80, $2.60, $2.60 OK), in leg three. Can I cruise west (2-1) came in fourth. In leg one, fat boy ($2.10) finished third and Bad Day Black Rock (5-2) finished fourth. In leg two, Never don’t dance ($3.60, $2.80) came in second, Sheeza Shark Nee (6-1) finished fifth and OK let’s RocknrolI scratched. A sidebar showing the results of stage two appears in “News and Comments” below.

Friday January 21

In a dual role at Hawthorne, we started with a strong win from Fuel for the Joe ($4.80, $3.00, $2.40) with Ideal big guy (2-1) refuel to eighth. The duo’s second part was won by a 12-1 shot while we finished fourth with woman magnet (5-2) and seventh with Hot Rod Dylan (7-1).

Saturday January 22

Our single feature from Meadowlands was a win worthy of its feature status. With only two contenders we met Kenziesky Hanover ($8.20, $5.20, $3.20) and locked in the $2 exacta worth $199.60 with the place horse just like him ($56.80, $12.80).

H2W LIST RESULTS

The H2W results reflect overall prices. Exactas listed include an H2W horse finishing second to a race favorite or if the first two finishers are H2W horses (an asterisk appears when both horses are listed – a cold exacta, and most prizes are for $2 exactas) . The “OK” comment determines that the prices are correct (even when a show price exceeds a place price or all prices are the same).

Please note that some of the results will reflect horse racing after the blog posts (they will appear next week).

This week there were 36 H2W horses (28% win-hit rate and 50% ATB) [across-the-board] touch). Horses with stars before their names were tweets @FrankCotolo. Follow for late picks.

NEWS & COMMENTS

Running Aces Racetrack is set for 2022 racing. The Minnesota five-eighth mile oval marks the track’s 15th year. The promotion starts on May 15th and ends on September 17th with 56 race nights. The schedule features a Tuesday-Thursday-Sunday rotation throughout the summer. New for this season is a 7:00 PM (CDT) post for all cards, which is beneficial for the exposure to increase the handle. There is a Wednesday card on August 3 and Friday and Saturday cards in the closing weekend. The purses are expected to exceed $5 million – the richest to date.

In leg two of the Property P3 on January 20, our predictions for driver/trainer Jacob Cutting continued to unfold. Last week we followed his Pedigree Blue Chip and Paloma Ruiz to double digit prize wins. Paloma Ruiz won the second leg 29-1 this week. Pedigree Blue Chip also finished second to Burning Desire in leg three.

TwinSpires harness gamblers heard her name here first and cashed in her, and now Ramona Hill, winner Breeders Crown and Hambletonian, is retiring to be bred in 2022. Hanover Shoe Farms has announced that the beautiful daughter of Muscle Hill is joining its broodmare band. Ramona Hill also won the Del Miller Memorial, Zweig, Simcoe and Elegantimage at age three. Ramona Hill won six of seven freshman starts, including the Bluegrass and the International Stallion Stakes, with a two-year-old record of 1:52.2 earning over $500k. She will retire with $1,511,401 in earnings.
