BEL AIR, MD — A new type of fitness is now available in Bel Air.
Jabz Boxing at Bel Air Town Center offers classes with built-in kickboxing, cardio, plyometrics, agility and functional training exercises.
Harford County resident Helen O’Keefe launched the company at Baltimore Pike, offering circuit-style workouts that target the entire body with exercises inspired by boxing moves.
The focus is on fitness, not fighters, according to the Jabz Boxing concept.
Nationwide, there are 15 studios in the Jabz Boxing franchise. The Bel Air location is the first in Maryland for Jabz Boxing.
O’Keefe and her husband learned about the concept out of state.
“We found Jabz in Philadelphia, tried the workout and were hooked,” O’Keefe told Bel Air Patch.
“We have already seen some significant individual success stories related to Jabz training with personal fitness and health,” O’Keefe said since the Jabz Boxing opening on Nov. 6 in Bel Air.
Previously, O’Keefe said she taught history for 14 years and stayed home for a while.
She and her husband were high school and college athletes; O’Keefe said she was a hockey player while her husband played baseball. They started out with running and recreational sports, but wanted something different.
“We were looking for a company with a healthy environment and a welcoming community – and it all fits Bel Air perfectly,” says O’Keefe.
“Our kids have been active and have also played organized sports,” O’Keefe said.
Jabz Boxing is available to people 16 and older “of all levels of fitness, backgrounds and abilities,” O’Keefe said.
Her experience since the company opened is “very rewarding,” O’Keefe told Bel Air Patch.
“Our diverse membership has grown and supports other groups, such as giving to the HCAA and Extreme Family Outreach programs during the holiday season,” said O’Keefe. “We have great members and a fantastic coaching team.”
There are more than 250 devices in the studio, as well as a custom-designed ring.
“Jabz is a competitive market-leading brand in the boxing industry with a truly unique approach to fun and holistic training in a highly supportive environment,” said Jabz Boxing Brand President Bertus Albertse in a statement.
“We are excited to support Helen,” Albertse said, “as she introduces this exciting, unique workout to Bel Air and the surrounding neighborhoods.”
Jabz Boxing is at 520 Baltimore Pike in Bel Air.
