Join Squidge and The42 Rugby Weekly crew for our members’ Six Nations preview

updated 2 hours ago

THERE ARE RESTRICTIONS to the touch, stadiums can be filled to the brim again and the four provinces have reached the knockout stages of the Champions Cup. Who can blame us for having a pick-me-up this week?

Then remember November 13 – and a fall series where the Andy Farlem Globetrotters ravaged anyone who dared challenge them on Lansdowne Road – and you can’t be blamed for wanting to fast-forward to the Six Nations kick-off over two weekends.

There will soon come a time when we can all put members’ rugby WhatsApp group names on faces, and share a laugh or a drink or personally share an incredibly detailed breakdown of Munster’s kicking stats. And we don’t mean that in the abstract Dermot Kennedy way, one-summer-night way — we mean actually soon.

In the meantime, though, it’s important to bridge the gap between now and February 5 and have a chat with those of you who are looking forward to this year’s tournament as much as we are. So, just as we have intermittently done since the proverbial hit the fan in March 2020, we cordially invite you to a special Six Nations preview event on Zoom this Thursday, February 3rd, kicking off at 8pm.

Your Rugby Weekly team of Murray Kinsella, Bernard Jackman and Gavan Casey will be joined for discussion and analysis by Robbie Owen (you may know him better by his stage name, Squidge Rugby), who will help the boys watch not only the Irish opener against Wales, but this year’s tournament as a whole.

‘Squidge’ has amassed a huge following – both on his YouTube channel and social media – as a result of his acclaimed video dissections of recent matches and hot button topics in the sport, which includes one of his fans, Rassie Erasmus.

His collaborations with Murray and Berch in conducting on-screen analytics for: de42 members is already being described by experts as the biggest cultural crossover event since Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera performed ‘Like A Virgin’ together at the 2003 MTV Video Music Awards.

As with our previous Zoom events, Thursday week will be a conventional Zoom call, not a webinar. This means that members can chat with Squidge, Murray, Bernard and Gavan on-screen if they want to (but if that’s not your thing, you can still ask them questions via the chat feature too).

There will be a prize or two to be won, there will be a lot of discussion, possibly a few cans cracked and, if you know Murray, Bernard, Squidge and Gav, about as enjoyable – and pleasantly thorough – a tournament breakdown as one would can think of.

The event takes place exclusively for de42 members and, if you’re not already a member of our community of members, now might be the perfect time to join us and take a look behind the scenes.

In addition to an invitation to call the boys on February 3rd, you get direct access to our Rugby Weekly Extra analysis pod featuring Murray and Eoin Toolan landing on your phone every Monday morning, plus additional episodes recorded by Murray and guests just after the final whistle of every game in Ireland during the Six Nations and beyond. You will also receive our Rugby Insiders analysis emails, sent directly to your inbox by Murray and our rugby writers.

Those are just the rugby offers. You can check out the rest at members.the42.ie and see if it all appeals to you.

For existing members, thank you again for your support and we can’t wait to see you Thursday at 8pm for the sit-down with Squidge, Murray, Bernard and Gavan.
