DeKALB, Illinois The Northern Illinois University women’s basketball team is looking to build on one of the best offensive performances of the season on Monday night, when it hosts the 6 p.m. Akron Zips at the NIU Convocation Center. The game will air on ESPN3 and locally on WLBK 98.9 FM/1360 AM and the NIU Huskies app.
Monday’s game is Fan Appreciation Night. Fans can purchase $2 general admission tickets from the following link. The first 100 fans to enter the Convocation Center Monday night will receive a free NIU cup. The first 100 students get free pizza. Fans can also enter a raffle for a chance to win a basketball autographed by the NIU women’s basketball team.
NIU (5-9, 2-4 MAC) scored a season-high 85 points in an 85-76 win over Eastern Michigan on Saturday. The Huskies achieved season highs of 57.1 percent field goal shooting and 64.7 percent three-point shooting for their second Mid-American Conference win of the year. NIU shot more than 70 percent of the field in the first half to build a 48-36 halftime advantage.
Chelby Koker (Racine, Wis./Shoreland Lutheran) scored 17 points with a game-high six assists in Eastern Michigan. She now has 995 career points, which is just five away from 1,000 for her career. Koker is fourth in the nation in free throw percentage at 93.8 percent and fourth in the MAC with 4.43 assists per game.
A’Jah Davis (DeKalb, Illinois/Montverde Academy) [Fla.]) registered double-digit rebounds for the seventh straight game on Saturday. Davis led all players with 23 points and 13 rebounds in the win over Eastern Michigan for her 10e doubles of the season. The junior striker leads the MAC with 11.5 rebounds per game and a 51.7 percent field goal percentage.
Akron (7-5, 4-2 MAC) is 4-2 in MAC play after losing 76-59 at Buffalo last Wednesday. The loss broke a four-game winning streak for Akron dating back to January 5. Reagan Bass led Akron by 18 points against the Bulls with Jordyn Dawson adding 13 points. Dawson is fifth in the MAC in scoring (19.1 points/game) and sixth in rebounding (8.5 rebounds/game). The Zips are fourth in the league in scoring defense, with 64.3 points per game.
NIU is home on Wednesday, January 26 to take on Kent State at 11 a.m. for Education Day. Huskie Flex Plans are now available for the 2021-22 basketball season.
