Meet the Girls Volleyball All-Scholastics teams of Greater Fall River

FALL RIVER — Greater Fall River girls’ volleyball teams had some great seasons last fall.

Nearly every team in the area has punched their post-season ticket.

Two players in particular – Abby Gaudreu of Westport and Hannah Storm of Joseph Case – had one for the record books in 2021. Both players were named The Herald News Player of the year.

The Herald News is pleased to announce the 2021 Girls Volleyball All-Scholastic high school teams in Greater Fall River.

Abby Gaudreau, Westport

Most of Westport’s success over the past two years has been based on Gaudreau’s play.

The senior setter had an incredible year, finishing with 382 assists in 16 games (she missed two games). Gaudreau eclipsed the 1,000 point mark in assists against Bishop Connolly.

She also had 198 points on the service line along with 108 assists. The senior two-year captain helped Westport to a school record of 18 consecutive wins and a berth to the D5 round of 16.

Gaudreau, who was the Mayflower Athletic Conference Most Valuable Player, is respected by her peers as a team leader and always the best player on the field.

Hannah Storm, Joseph Case

When the Cardinals needed a point in the net, they turned to none other than Storm for the deadly shot.

The sophomore outside batter was second in the South Coast Conference in kill shots (232). Storm, who started every game in her first two seasons, was named SCC all-star. She also ended up with 132 excavations.

Storm helped Case reach the MIAA D4 round of 16 postseason. She is always a threat on the net and has a great vision.

Madison Benson, Westport

Benson, a senior middle hitter, came into her own in her final season for the Wildcats last fall…named Mayflower Athletic Conference all-star…closed the season with 114 kills, 77 service points, and 51 aces…led the team on the net defending with 33 solo blocks…helped Westport to school record 18 straight wins and a berth to the D5 round of 16…negated many of the opposing team’s better hitters with her height and blocking ability.

Jasmine Caine, Durfee

Caine, a junior team captain, had an all-round season for the playoff-bound Hilltoppers … named a Southeast Conference all-star … led Durfee to employ aces (68) … had 15 aces in one match. .. finished with 150 assists and 74 kill shots … was solid in reception and had 177 digs … voted the team’s Most Valuable Player.

Kyleigh Finglas, Westport

Finglas, a junior outside hitter, had a stellar season for the Wildcats…closed the season with 193 kills, 173 service points with 103 aces…named Mayflower Athletic Conference all-star…helped Westport to school record 18 straight wins and a berth to the D5 round of 16… a two-year captain and showed off-court leadership.

Knight, a senior outside hitter, had a stellar final season for the Raiders…named South Coast Conference all-star…had 60 aces and 139 service points…was strong at the net, finishing with a team-leading 100 kill shots…recorded 121 serve received passes and had 125 digs.

Lauren Kuchar, Durfee

Kuchar, a junior, had an eye-watering season for the Hilltoppers in 2021…named a Southeast Conference all-star…closed the season with 71 kill shots and 153 digs…received Durfee’s Coaches -price…very consistent when receiving service.

Mae Lima, Bishop Stanga

Lima, a junior, was Sparta’s top player last fall… declared Catholic Central League All-star…finished with a team-leading 48 aces and 136 kill shots… also recorded 150 digs… excellent at the net in the backline…helped the Spartans win a preliminary tournament match against O’Bryant.

Janet Mercier, Atlantis Charter

Mercier, a senior outside hitter, was one of the most consistent players for the Tritons in 2021… led Atlantis Charter in serve (81%), kill shots, digs and passes… played hard and had a nose for the ball .

Martin, a junior setter, was the spark plug for the Bengals last fall…became a Mayflower Athletic Conference all-star…helped Diman to his first post-season berth since 2003…has outstanding athleticism at 5 ‘1’ and was the most stable of the Bengals player… executes the attack to perfection.

Jamie Moniz, Joseph Case

Moniz, a junior captain, had a great season for the Cardinals in 2021…helped Case reach the D4 round of 16…finished fifth in the South Coast Conference with 164 kills shots…carried 46 aces as well at and collected 75 digs … began two seasons in a row.

Lindsey Moniz, Diman

Moniz did just about everything for the Bengals last fall… the sophomore winger led the Diman in service aces (84)… she also had 73 kill shots and was the team leader in passing with 94%… assists in running the attack…stable player…named all-star Mayflower Athletic Conference.

Potvin had a great season for the playoff tied Cougars last fall…among the team leaders in kill shots, blocks and aces…had 10 kill shots in a game…named a Mayflower Athletic Conference all-star.

Victoria Reid, Bishop Connolly

Reid was solid for the playoff-bound Cougars all season…was outstanding on the backline…between team leaders in kills, blocks, digs and aces…named a Mayflower Athletic Conference all-star.

Kaelyn Rose, Somerset Berkley

Rose, a junior setter, had a stellar season for the Raiders last fall… amassing 25 aces and 103 service points… she also had 24 kill shots, 251 assists and 36 digs… got an honorable mention from the SCC.

Silva, a junior captain and two-year starter, has been great for the Cardinals all season…named South Coast Conference all-star…moved to setter and was fantastic…finished third in league with 450 assists … led Case with aces (52) … a three-year-old varsity player.
