Netflix has started filming a new series that shows the horse racing around the world. The series, which uses the same module as the ‘Drive To Survive’ in Formula 1, will take a look behind the scenes of trainers, jockeys and owners in the sport. The Box to Box Films series is the first of its magnitude in horse racing. It should open up the sport to a wider audience and show great stories from those who operate at the highest level.
Talks about the series were held at the Breeders’ Cup Championship in Del Mar last November. After that meeting, plans were quickly made and it was agreed that filming would take place in the US, UK and France, three of the biggest markets for the sport.
Irish trainer Joseph O’Brien is one of the first trainers to invite filmmakers into his garden. He has a number of quality horses including Hannibal Barca who is +2500. So for those betting on horse racing, the Derby in 2022 is sure to be an interesting spectacle. The British Classic is one of the most prestigious Flat races on the sport’s calendar, so his journey is sure to be documented as he prepares for the Epsom competition.
O’Brien is the son of the great Flat trainer Aidan O’Brien, a man who has dominated Irish and British horse racing for the past three decades. The former jockey is now enjoying great success in training. He has already won the Melbourne Cup twice, won the Breeders’ Cup Championship and won a British classic.
American Triple Crown is documented
The filmmakers have not yet announced who they will be filming with in the US and UK. They are expected to be in the US ahead of the US Triple Classic and will follow the three year olds as they tackle the Kentucky Derby, Preakness Stakes and Belmont Stakes.
There have been 13 American Triple Crown winners in history with Justify being the last to have won all three races in 2018. different distances.
It is also likely that the Breeders’ Cup Championship will be covered in November. In 2022 it will take place at Keeneland Racecourse in Kentucky.
Formula 1 series was a big hit for Netflix
If the Formula One series: Drive To Survive is anything to go by, chances are the horse racing documentary will be a big hit. The F1 series was first filmed in 2018 and Netflix released 10 episodes in 2019.
There have now been three series of Drive To Survive as Netflix viewer demand continues. The latter dealt with the dramatic 2021 F1 season, where the championship went until the final round of the final Grand Prix in Abu Dhabi. This will be available for viewing later in 2022.
No release date has been confirmed for the horse racing series, but it is expected to be in early 2023.
