Sharjah’s ‘Narratives’ Impresses Crowds at Al Majaz Amphitheater

Sheikh Sultan Bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, deputy ruler of Sharjah and chairman of the Sharjah Media Council, witnessed the premiere of ‘Narratives of the Place’ (Sard Al Makan) at the Al Majaz Amphitheater, Sharjah, on Tuesday.

Presented by Sharjah Government Media Bureau (SGMB), the ambitious production celebrates the 50th anniversary of the accession of His Highness Dr. Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and ruler of Sharjah.

Continuing on January 26, 28 and 29 at the Al Majaz Amphitheater, the immersive and experiential theatrical show chronicles the history of the emirate and its extraordinary journey and achievements over the past 50 years. Containing 10 creative art forms, the show combines poetry and storytelling, early and contemporary music and is a grand spectacle of breathtaking visual images.

Consisting of 11 compelling scenes, the show begins against the backdrop of a pivotal period in the emirate’s history when the Qawasim resisted the Portuguese and Dutch invasions. Amid a charged atmosphere in the amphitheater that echoed with the thundering roar of cannons, the show revealed an epic battle scene culminating in the triumph of Sharjah and the retreat of the invading fleets.

Through impeccable performances, each eloquent scene takes the audience on a journey back to more than a few decades. A visually stunning scene depicts a young woman in a traditional Emirati embroidered dress, whose mesmerizing song about the glory of the emirate is performed against a backdrop of the rising sun and its dazzling rays – in reference to the meaning of the word ‘Sharjah’. ‘ ( Rising Sun).

As each scene transitions seamlessly into another, the audience is taken on a pearl hunting adventure where a highly talented cast of acrobatic performers and performers transform the stage into a fantastic world with the ocean and breaking waves. A pearl divers boat perfectly illustrates the emirate’s fearless ancestors as they venture into the sea, undaunted by the challenges of the perilous journey.

The scene, set to a backing score of the captivating sound of waves, is accompanied by mesmerizing performances, which keep the audience in ecstasy. The music reaches a crescendo when pearls appear on the scene, signifying the richness of the sea and the enormous impact it has had on the emirate’s development journey.

The show continues with a scene that speaks volumes about the profound relationship His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, member of the Supreme Council and ruler of Sharjah with books. A story of the time when His Highness promised to buy books with his golden dagger, which his father had given him, confirms the Sharjah ruler’s belief in the role of knowledge as a catalyst for the growth of the emirate. From scenes highlighting theatrical performances and audio commentary, the show moves on to a highly artistic segment where performers perform a breathtaking display of aerial acrobatics with dazzling lights to reflect the impact of a knowledge-driven approach to development.

The show continues to enthrall audiences with a scene depicting the emirate’s extraordinary development journey under the rule of the Sharjah Ruler. In yet another example of choreographed acrobatic performances, we see the performers build a gigantic structure and the scene closes with the appearance of the Sharjah Mosque – an enduring symbol of faith and the largest and most iconic mosque known in the emirate. stands out for its grandeur and architectural beauty, and a grand testament to the emirate’s progress in development over the past 50 years.

The show concludes with music and solo and group performances and acrobatic dances that illustrate Sharjah’s journey to become a globally attractive destination to live and work. A planeload of tourists landing on stage also depicts Sharjah’s meteoric rise and appeal as a top tourist destination, and the scene closes with a memorable acrobatic finale.
