The 2022 XV Continental Chess Championship of the Americas will be held from May 1-11, 2022 at the Best Western Hotel Terraza, San Salvador, El Salvador. Organized by the Chess Confederation of the Americas, the Salvadoran Chess Federation and the National Institute of Sports of El Salvador, the event is open to all chess federations of the Americas.
This is an 11 round event and the time control for all games is 40/90, SD/30; +30. The top 4 finishers qualify to participate in the FIDE World Cup and the prize pool is $20,000 with the top 20 finishers receiving a prize. Click here to download a PDF of the full tournament rules.
US Chess will nominate three (3) Official Players who are entitled to accommodation (double room sharing) and full meals, at the Promoter’s expense, from dinner on Sunday, May 1 to breakfast on Wednesday, May 11. To be one of the official US players, you must register for the event by March 25, 2022 (instructions below).
The top 3 US players according to the March 2022 FIDE Standard Rating List, who register before the March 25, 2022 deadline, will be chosen as US Official Players.
All entries to the tournament must be submitted by National Federations, it is not possible for an individual to register directly with the organizer. The entry fee for all players is $200.00 and payment must be made using the US Chess Registration Form. Please note that there is also a $10 non-refundable administrative fee that will be added to all registrations.
The US chess deadline for US players to register is April 15, 2022 (note the deadline to register to be considered an official player is March 25, 2022), which will allow US Chess to collect all the information necessary to participate by the organizer’s deadline.

Refund Policy: A full refund of the entry fee will be provided, less the administration fee, if requested before April 15, 2022. No refunds will be made after this date unless the tournament is canceled by the organizers.
Hotel bookings and payments must be made through US Chess. Transfers to and from the hotel and the airport are available from the organizer at the following rates:
- Single room: $70/day per person including breakfast for a total of $700 (arrival May 1, check out May 11)
- Double room: $40/day per person including breakfast for a total of $400 (arrival May 1, check out May 11)
- Airport pickup/drop-off: $50 per person, airport – hotel – airport (May 1 pick up, May 11 drop off only, arranged by the organizer)
A follow-up form will be sent to registered players (after March 25, 2022) to obtain hotel and transportation needs and a link to process the necessary payment. All hotel and transportation payments, as well as any additional documentation (ID) requested by the organizer, must be received by US Chess by April 15, 2022.

While US Chess must collect entries on behalf of our federation and submit them to the organizer, we cannot accept responsibility for the health and wellbeing of players who choose to travel to this event. As such, all players are required to sign a waiver of entry before their entry into the tournament is confirmed.
