SALT LAKE CITY – The BYU/Utah game is a historic rivalry that also happens to be pleasing to the eyes.
When the Cougars and Utes square off on the gridiron, they always wear solid color uniforms against one another. But, aesthetically, the blue versus red gives the game a distinct look, making it one of the top uniform matchups.
BYU/Utah: Top Uniform Matchup
Well, one outlet that obsesses over all things uniforms agrees. The 2021 BYU/Utah game ranked as the fifth-best uniform matchup in college football for 2021.

BYU defeated the Utes, 26-17, to end a nine-game losing streak. The threads BYU rolled with was “The Giff,” which featured a royal blue uniform, white pants with royal stripes, and a white helmet with a gray facemask (a tribute to the Gifford Nielsen era in the 1970s).
Utah wore an all-red uniform that featured a satin-finished red helmet with a white facemask.
Since 2011, BYU and Utah have worn red and blue uniforms. The two rivals will meet again in 2024.
Uniform Authority’s number one ranked uniform matchup in 2021 was the rivalry game between Oregon and Oregon State.
BYU was a fixture in top uniform games in 2021
BYU appeared on Uniform Authority’s Top 10 “Best Uniform Matchups” list a total of three times. at no. 3, BYU’s October tilts against future Big 12 rival Baylor. The contest between two Big 12 programs featured Sailor logos from both teams. BYU wore its new navy blue helmet to counter Baylor’s homecoming green.
Also on the list was BYU’s regular-season final win at USC. BYU wore their other new lid, the royal blue helmet, to counter USC’s Cardinal and Gold. It was a sharp look.
