Herd Swimming and Diving Drops Dual at Duquesne

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Marshall University swimming and diving team dropped a narrow 164-136 decision to the Duquesne Dukes on Saturday.

“Our first segment of the meet we were flat,” Herd swimming and diving head coach Ian Walsh said. “A couple races got away from us early. With that being said, the team did a nice job getting back into the meet following the break. We took a talented Duquesne team down to the wire and was really proud of the grit they showed. “

“There were some standout performances today on both boards and the pool. Kailee (Payne) walked away with her first collegiate win along with her first Zones cut. Our divers did a great job as a group, scoring huge points for the meet. Eszter (Laban) had a really gutsy 200 Fly performance following her 1000. The 100 Free was big event for us, Klava (Katayama) leading the charge on that. Paige continues to be a force for us in both breaststrokes.”

MU won had five first-place finishes in the meet. Paige Banton took both the 100 (1:05.19)
and 200 Breaststroke (2:20.16) in the dual. Eszter Laban won the 200 Butterfly (2:06.33) as Klava Katayama took the 100 Freestyle (53.30).

Kailee Payne picked up the first victory of her career in the 1m Dive (269.20).

“We talked about taking the momentum of this last dual into our training and final meet before conference. The staff is excited to get back into our routine and move through the next two weeks.”
