Notable Numbers: Basketball teams peaking at right time

BLACKSBURG – There has been no shortage of fun the last couple of weeks if you are fan of the Virginia Tech basketball teams, with milestones, records and more happening at an electric rate. Read below to see all that has happened.


Purchase tickets below for the final regular season game in Cassell for the men’s basketball, which will take on Louisville on Tuesday, March 1 at 9 pm ET. Tech’s other two games at home (Virginia Feb. 14, North Carolina Feb. 19) are sold out.

With the women’s basketball team defeating then-No. 11 Georgia Tech last Thursday and then-No. 23 North Carolina this past Sunday, it marked the first time in program history defeating two AP Top 25 teams in a row.

For a five-game stretch, the men’s basketball team shot 50 percent or better, which is a record for the Hokies in ACC play since they joined the league in 2004-05.

Tying the most wins at home against ACC opponents (2019-20), the women’s basketball team is currently undefeated at Cassell Coliseum being 7-0. They have two remaining home games.

The men’s basketball team is on a five-game winning streak and the women’s basketball team is on a four-game streak. It marks the first time in school history of both teams being on at least a four-game winning streak in ACC play at the same time. The two are on a combined nine-game win streak.

Against the Tar Heels on Sunday when she made four 3-pointers, Aisha Sheppard made history by racking up 377 career made 3-pointers to break the ACC record of 374 set by Louisville’s Asia Durr (2015-19).
