Cheboygan bowling teams capture NMBC titles

BOYNE CITY — For a sixth straight year, the Cheboygan girls bowling team can call itself a conference champion.

For the third straight year, the Cheboygan boys bowling team can call itself a conference champion.

Competing in their final regular season Northern Michigan Bowling Conference matches at Boyne City on Saturday, Feb. 12, the Cheboygan girls claimed the outright crown and the boys earned a share of the title after both teams split their respective matches.

“Obviously this shows the kids are still working hard,” said Cheboygan coach Brian Taylor. “They know what kind of level the Cheboygan bowling program is all about. We want to compete for championships, whether it’s conference championships or a state title. You would never get it just by going to practice each day, these kids go out and do extra work. As a coach, you couldn’t ask for anything more out of the kids.

“As a group, they’re a lot of fun to be around and coach.”

Despite falling to Boyne City, 25-5, the Cheboygan girls claimed the outright NMBC title with a 29-1 victory over Gaylord in their second match of the day.
