This could revolve around Marettimo and RADETZKY MARCH (nap) who both made a winning start over fences last week. The former scored with authority off a reduced mark at Taunton but preference is for Radetzky March, who trounced his rivals over 2m5f on his handicap debut at Fakenham and is well treated under a penalty for that success.

The two recent winners, Smuggler’s Blues and Prairie Town, have to be considered but neither is guaranteed to reproduce the same form. ECLAIR MAG has mostly struggled this season but a drop in trip and grade might do the trick. Captain Tommy is feared most.

Stepney Causeway was disappointing as favorite at Doncaster last time but that was only his second run in this sphere and he has leading claims on his chase debut second behind Edwardstone at Warwick in November. He’s strongly respected but slight preference is for Olly Murphy’s NICKOLSONwho has raised his form to a new level with his two eyecatching efforts over fences this season.

This looks a bit trappy but it might be worth siding with ARIAN, who had an excuse when upped to 3m last time and is a big player if she can recapture the form of her second behind a subsequent winner at Ffos Las in November. The main threat could come from the well-handicapped Cut The Mustard, who looks interesting on her creditable third at Chepstow on her penultimate run.

Recent scorer Royal Act could make a bold bid but this can go to FULGURIXwho showed enough at Warwick last month to suggest he can concede weight to his rivals.

All of these have something to prove. HOTEL DU NORD ran well enough on heavy ground in a point last month to earn the verdict, ahead of Back Bar, with Path Of Freedom also considered.

13:35 – Radetzky March
14:10 – Eclair Mag
14:45 – Nickolson
15:20 – Arian
15:55 – Fulgurix
16:30 – Hotel Du Nord
