SIUE volleyball adds transfer Jones

EDWARDSVILLE – SIUE volleyball head coach Kendall Paulus has announced the addition of sophomore transfer Priscilla Jones to the squad for the upcoming 2022 season. Jones, a middle blocker, comes to SIUE from East Carolina where she helped the Pirates improve from a 1-7 American Athletic Conference (AAC) record during the 2020-21 season to a five-win AAC campaign this past fall.

“We are so excited to welcome Priscilla to the Cougar family,” said Paulus. “She will add strong depth to our middle position with her court IQ, blocking, and point-scoring abilities. Her contact point and block touch will immediately impact our gym.”

Jones played in 26 matches for the Pirates during her two seasons in Greenville, recording 57 kills on 182 total attacks for a .288 hitting percentage. Jones’ career has been highlighted by constant improvement, doubling her total kills from her first collegiate season to her second and more than doubling her total digs and total blocks in that time as well.

The 6-0 middle blocker hails from Austin, Texas and attended Green Hope High School in Cary, North Carolina, where she won back-to-back Class 4A state championships her junior and senior years.

Jones accumulated 318 kills and 84 total blocks (70 block solos) with a .401 hitting percentage during her two seasons at Green Hope, helping the team to a No. 1 ranking in North Carolina and top-five ranking nationally.

Jones is also a multi-talented student-athlete, lettering in track & field to become a three-time regional finalist in nine events and a two-time Texas Class 6A district champion in the 100-meter hurdles. Outside of sports, Jones is fluent in both Spanish and American Sign Language (ASL).

Jones will be the first Cougar on Paulus’ roster who hails from the Lone Star State since Mallory Nicholson, a 2019 graduate who came to SIUE from Sugar Land, Texas and the University of Texas-Permian Basin.

“Along with her high-level skill set, Priscilla brings a fun personality, strong work ethic, and great leadership potential,” added Paulus.

Jones is the daughter of Maneesha and Robert Jones and is the fifth of six siblings, including her brother Zay, who is regarded as one of the best wide receivers in the history of college football. She will pursue a degree in Mass Communications/Journalism at SIUE and looks to pursue a career in sports journalism after graduation.
