Watch LS-Swapped 1967 Chevrolet Camaro Drag Race 1963 Chevrolet Nova

Here is an old-school drag race, something a little different to the Tesla Model S Plaids and Dodge Demons of this world.

Thanks to excellently-named Cars and Zebras on YouTube; we have a quick preview of classic muscle car drag racing at its best, between two arguably cult cars.

The first is the legendary Chevrolet Camaro, the second, is also a Chevrolet: a classic Nova.

With these cars coming from the golden age of the ’60s, both before the first manned moon landing, let’s see how quick these cars still are on the strip and perhaps more importantly; how they sound and who won.

The Chevrolet Camaro And Chevy II Nova Are Quick Classics

First, the specs: in the left lane, a blue 1967 Chevrolet Camaro SS with an auto transmission – but is substantially upgraded, at least under the hood.

Instead of the 350 or 396 CI engines which came as standard with this car, there is now an LS3 V8, which should be making somewhere around 430 hp and 424 lb-ft of torque.

Crucially, the car is also light at 3100 lbs, which makes today’s SUVs and EVs look incredibly heavy in comparison.

On the right lane, is a 1963 Chevrolet Chevy II Nova Super Sport, a car which is also a cult favorite but with a different feel on the outside.

Normally, this car would have sported a 194 CI straight-six which would have been good for 120 hp, but now there’s a 383 CI V8 under the hood, there’s no knowing the power output or which transmission it’s running, but it’s definitely an automatic .

Both Cars Put Up A Good Fight, But There’s Only One Winner

There’s only one winner in a drag race, generally speaking, but this one was close, very close.

Although coming from the same automaker, these cars are like chalk and cheese, with different drive trains and both produced 4 years apart.

The cars pull off the starting line cleanly and quickly, no wheel spin here, but the Camaro predictably pulls ahead early, the LS3 supplying it with the power it needs to win.

Surprisingly, the twist reveals itself as somehow, the Chevy Nova pulls back the lead by the end of the quarter-mile and brings in a win, perhaps due to its lighter weight at 2,700 lbs, some 400 lbs less than the Camaro.

Finally, the times were super-close: 114.97 mph vs 115.06 mph, giving 1/4-mile times of 12:06 11:89.

If you are wondering, yes, they sound great: you can check out the link to the video above for further proof.
