Jeremy Kelly, Sonny Wang, Michaela Koltz lead swimming, diving team

Cedar Park and Georgetown flexed their muscles in the pool and emerged as the strongest Central Texas teams at the UIL swimming and diving meet in February.

All-Central Texas senior Thomas Wu of Cedar Park said old rival Landon Alarcon made him a better swimmer. Alarcon returned the compliment after the two engaged in one of the most competitive races at state, the Class 5A 100-yard breaststroke.

But the best swimmers clearly were Georgetown sophomore Jeremy Kelly and Westwood junior Sonny Wang. Kelly won a pair of gold medals and earned state records in both in the process. And for the second consecutive year, Wang can boast about winning an individual gold and silver at the state meet.
