HS BASEBALL/SOFTBALL: Roundup from March 10 Leave a Comment / Baseball / By admin IN TOURNEY LEANDER – The Midland High baseball team defeated Austin High, 8-4, before losing 9-0 to Hutto in the Leander Tournament on Thursday. MHS had a three-run second inning and five-run fourth in the win over Austin High to overcome four errors. Jakee Urias was 2-for-3 with a double, six RBI and run scored to lead the Bulldogs. Luke Ingram was 2-for-2 with an RBI ad two runs scored; and Jaxson Kidd added a triple. Jaron Gignac got the win on the mound after he allowed two runs on four hits with one walk and two strikeouts over three innings. MHS was hero to five hits in the loss to Hutto. Dax Patton was 2-for-3 to lead the MHS offense. Pierce Mackey took the loss for the Bulldogs as Hutto had 12 hits in the game. The Bulldogs continue tournament play today. GREENWOOD OPEN HOST TOURNEY WITH 2 WINS Greenwood opened the West Texas March Classic with a 2-0 record, beating Brownfield 9-1 at Momentum Bank Ballpark before defeating Slaton 13-8 at Greenwood High School. Jaxon Ramos tossed a two-hitter in the win over Brownfield. Ramos held the Cubs to one run and two walks, while striking out eight over seven innings. Greenwood’s Zac Rybolt was 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored; Jonathan Mason went 2-for-3 with two runs scored; Nathan Rhoads was 1-for-2 with a double and two RBI; Andrew Gomez went 2-for-3 with two doubles and a run scored; and Ramos was 2-for-4 with a triple and an RBI. Hudson Grace led the Rangers’ offense against Slaton by going 4-for-4 with a double, two RBI and three runs scored. In the night cap, Dylan Dominguez was 2-for-2 with a double and four runs scored; Ramos was 1-for-2 with two RBI and two runs scored and Britton Finch was 2-for-2 with a double, three RBI and a run scored. The Rangers (5-8) continue play in the tournament Saturday when they host El Paso Hanks at 9 am and face Idalou at 3 pm at Momentum Bank Ballpark. The Bulldogettes defeated Borden County (11-3) and Tahoka (13-2). Against Borden County, Hannah Wells was 3-for-4 with two home runs, five RBI and three runs scored; Karleigh Burt was 3-for-4 with a double, RBI and three runs scored; Shae Lang was 2-for-3 with a home run, triple, RBI and scored two runs; and Avery Rodriguez added two hits. Makayla Calvio got the win after she allowed three runs (one earned) on five hits with six strikeouts over six innings. Coahoma out-hit Tahoka 11-3 and were led by Rodriguez, who was 3-for-4 with two doubles, four RBI and a run scored; and Wells was 3-for-3 with a home run, double, walk, two RBI and three runs scored. Wells got the win in the circle after she allowed three runs (two earned) on three hits, walked one and struck out nine. Friday’s games of the Coahoma Round Robin were canceled for Friday because of the weather.
