Notre Dame football: Interview with 2023 commit Cooper Flanagan

Sean Smith (SlaptheSign): What stood out to you about Notre Dame?

Cooper Flanagan: Notre Dame is an exceptional school with an amazing football program. I loved the campus when I visited last June, and the coaching staff was fantastic as well. It really seemed like a natural fit for me.”

Smith: Are there any TEs that you look up to or embody your game after?

Flanagan: I love the toughness of George Kittle and the skill of Travis Kelce. I think my favorite TE is Mark Andrews. Great blocking, passing game, really combines all the TE skills. He’s just really well rounded, that’s my goal too.”

Smith: What are your plans Senior year to be ready to make an impact on day one for the Irish?

Flanagan: I gave up Lacrosse this year after playing since I was 4 to focus on training for football. So I am doing track, it has helped so much already. I compete on the track to get faster. I do look a little out of place on the track but that’s ok. I lift every day, work on my JUGGs machine on Sunday and focus on eating foods to build strength along with all my workouts. I am also doing 7 on 7 which helps me focus on my route running and gives me reps with catching. It’s a grind but I love it.”

Smith: How is the relationship between you and the new TE coach at Notre Dame Gerad Parker?

Flanagan: The new coach is awesome, we talk weekly. He texts and messages me every few days. We have built a solid relationship at this point. I head to Notre Dame to meet him in person on April 8. I will also catch the weekend practice and connect with Coach Rees and Coach Freeman too.”

Smith: What is the impact you want to have at Notre Dame?

Flanagan: I want to help the team in any I can right away, that’s my goal. Whatever they need to win, I will work hard to be that teammate.”

We would like to thank Cooper for sitting down to talk with us here at SlaptheSign. It was a pleasure to do this interview with him. Flanagan is going to make an impact for the Fighting Irish immediately. Showing why the Irish are TEU.
