Ashland boys fall in first round of match play

COLUMBUS — The Ashland boys bowling team gave everything it had but fell short of a chance at a state title.

The Arrows finished third in the qualifying round but fell to Boardman 3-0 in the first round of match play at the Division I state tournament Friday at Wayne Webb’s Columbus Bowl.

Boardman won the first game 209-159, the second game in a roll off 46-38 after both teams tied at 232-232, and the third game 200-177.

“I don’t think it was the lanes so much as it was our mental approach to the game when it got tough,” said Ashland head coach Mark Dreibelbis. “You can’t just throw pins away on fill balls and easily makeable spares and expect to come down here and win.”
