Boys Bowling: Group 1 schools lead the way at North, 1A sectionals

Sussex Tech (Group 1), Indian Hills (Group 2), Pascack Valley (Group 3), and Passaic Tech (Group 4) each took first place at the NJSIAA North Jersey, 1A Sectional Championships on Saturday at Bowler City in Hackensack.

Sussex Tech finished with an alley-high 2,931 total pins over three pins. Wallkill Valley placed second in Group 1 with 2,842 pins. The top two teams per group move on to the state Group Championships/Tournament of Champions next Wednesday at Bowlero in North Brunswick.

Passaic Tech and Ramapo and finished in the top two spots in Group 4 with 2,837 pins and 2,812 pins, respectively. Pascack Valley won Group 3 with 2,808 pins while West Milford took silver with 2,701 pins. Indian Hills (2,626 and Mahwah (2,610) were the top two teams in Group 2.

Bergen Catholic, which finished in a tight third place in Group 4, is the Wildcard with 2,734. The Crusaders are also moving on to Groups next week.

Sussex Tech’s Justin Rizzo compiled a 701 series for the best day among all participants. He moves on to the state individual tournament next Friday alongside teammate Gavin Zinck (604) and the other top 20 finishers based on series totals.

Fair Lawn’s Morgan Fuld was second with a 651 series Shane Yodice from West Milford was third with a 646 series, Josh Powers of Wallkill Valley was fourth with a 641 series, and Nick Brindisi took fifth with a 639 series.
