Most Likely Winner: (Race 6: Wheels #4, 9/2):

Trainer Karl Broberg is leading the standings at Sam Houston, and he has another strong contender in this spot. This colt by Will Take Charge has a number of positives in its corner. His conditioner is strong off-the-bench, and was solid in his 1st start of the Meet on the grass on 10 Feb. Richard Eramia had the call then, and does once again … The May Valley Farms homebred made the trip from Oaklawn to Houston well, and even though he is up against yet another Asmussen favorite, the 4-yr-old should be able to make this a heck of a race.

Wagering Recommendation: $100 Win, #4

Off-the-Pace Play of the Day: (Race 4: Bizzy Legs #8, 8/1):

Brent Davidson is a trainer with a low percentage when it comes to wins at the Meet, and frankly, overall. But that should not cloud a fair and just appraisal of his 4-yr-old gelding by Fed Biz. I love a runner that is getting back to something that they once excelled at doing. For this one, who happens to be owned by Colleen, it is turf racing. This one can handle this class level, and the Connally Lawn. He just needs a chance … In a world of success and failure that is governed by percentages sometimes it is best to look beyond the numbers. Oh, and by the way, regular rider Carlos Montalvo gets the call, and it should be noted that Davidson chose to scratch this one out of a Friday race at a higher level. I trust that this horse can work out a trip at odds that should be quite good. This one is a bet…

Wagering Recommendation: $100 Bankroll, Graduated Wager WPS #8 ($10-W, $15-P, $75-S)

Spotlight Race of the Day: (Race 5: Dirt, 6F, MSW36k, 3F):

It is time to start sprinting, and we have a group of 3-yr-old maiden fillies that will be contesting for the lead in the end. Once again, trainer Steve Asmussen has an uncoupled entry that is a tale of 2 runners. The higher priced Redefinition #6 is owned by CJ Thoroughbreds, and they made the switch to the HOF trainer from Wesley Ward last April. Asmussen put this one in at Sam in a MSW36k for her debut, and it is probably safe to say, that it did not go as planned. Now, with top rider Stewart Elliott in the irons, the connections are hoping to right the ship. The other “Steve” entry is the lower priced option—Senseofexcellence #2† Ridden by Rodolfo Guerra, she ships in from Turfway hoping for a better opportunity. Owned by HRH Prince Al Saud, this $100k priced filly is going to have to do much better. I am not dead set against either of these entries; in actuality, I like Elliott’s mount … But when it comes to a top selection, my choice goes to Martin Villafranco’s Charlotte’s Way #4† This filly is by a Spendthrift-owned sire, Goldencents, and his progeny can move expeditiously. This trainer-jockey combo is riding high with Floyd Wethey Jr., and I expect it to continue. One other entry that piques my interest comes from the barn of Ron Moquett. Massard #9 is by Nyquist, bred by Spendthrift, and this one has such bloodlines that they cannot be overlooked. Clearly, the Oaklawn-based conditioner understands the importance of running in Houston, as a staging ground for things to come. Let’s take this one on top, and roll the Moquett “firster” and the pair of Asmussen runners underneath … Should be good fun …

Wagering Recommendation: $2 Exacta Wheel, 4w 2/6/9
