American Claims 2022 PedFed Credit Union Patriot League Women’s Basketball Championship (3.13.22)

WASHINGTON – no. 2 American earned a 65-54 win over No. 4 Bucknell in the 2022 PenFed Credit Union Patriot League Women’s Basketball title game on Sunday at Bender Arena.

The Eagles claimed the League’s automatic bid to the NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament for the third time in program history, all under Head Coach Megan Gebbia. This was American’s first postseason victory over the Bison in six meetings.

American senior guard Emily Fisher was named Patriot League Women’s Basketball Championship MVP while earning a spot on the all-tournament team after finishing with eight points, seven rebounds and four assists. She was joined by classmate American Jade Edwards, who finished with a game-high 21 points.

Bucknell senior guard Taylor O’Brien led the Bison with 20 points to make the all-tournament team, along with teammate and freshman guard Cecelia Collins. They were joined by Army West Point senior guard Alisa Fallon, Boston University junior guard Sydney Johnson and Navy senior guard Jennifer Coleman.

* American senior guard Emily Fisher earned Patriot League Tournament MVP honors after finishing with eight points, seven boards and four assists. She averaged team-highs of 14.3 points and 6.7 boards during the Eagles three wins.
* American senior guard Jade Edwards paced all players with 21 points while adding four assists and two blocks.
Eagles senior forward Taylor Brown chipped in 18 points, six rebounds, three assists and two steals, while sophomore guard Ivy Bales scored 11 points and pulled down seven rebounds.
* American shot 25-for-55 (.455) from the field and 12-for-12 from the charity stripe.
* Bucknell senior guard Taylor O’Brien led the Bison with 20 points. She added three rebounds, three steals and two blocks.
* Bucknell junior forward Emma Shaffer recorded her first double-double of the season with season-highs of 12 points and 12 rebounds.
