Hartford Hawks Athletics – Volleyball Falls in Four Sets Against Dartmouth

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. † Junior Maddie Lindsay and freshman Camryn Luginbuhl combined for 28 kills to lead the Hartford volleyball team, but it wasn’t enough as the Hawks fell to Ivy league foe Dartmouth in four sets on day two of the Hartford Hawks Invitational inside of the Hartford Volleyball Gym on Friday evening.

The Hawks fell to 2-9 on the season with the loss, while the Big Green improved to 7-1 on the 2021 campaign.

DARTMOUTH 3, HARTFORD 1 (25-19, 25-17, 23-25, 25-12)

SET ONE: The two sides traded points to a 7-7 tie before the Big Green rattled off three straight points to take a 10-7 lead, forcing a Hartford timeout. Out of the timeout, Hartford went on an 8-3 run to take a 15-13 lead in the set. However, Dartmouth responded with a 5-0 run of its own to take an 18-15 lead in the set. Hartford trimmed the deficit to 18-17 before Dartmouth countered with three straight points to force a timeout from the Hawks. However, the deficit proved to be too much as the Big Green took the set 25-19.

SET TWO: Dartmouth jumped out to an early 5-2 lead in the set, forcing a Hartford timeout. Out of the timeout, the Big Green built its lead to 15-8 to force a second Hartford timeout. Dartmouth did not take its foot off the gas out of the timeout, hanging on for the 25-17 set win.

SET THREE: The two sides exchanged points to a 7-7 tie before the Hawks rallied three straight points to take a 10-7 lead in the set. However, the Big Green stormed back with an 8-3 run to take a 15-13 lead to force a Hartford timeout. Out of the timeout, Hartford rallied to tie the set at 16-16. The two sides played to a 19-19 tie in the set before Dartmouth called a timeout. out of time, Maddie Lindsay scored back-to-back kills and a Dartmouth attack error gave Hartford a three-point lead to force a timeout by the Big Green. Out of the timeout, Dartmouth cut the Hawks’ lead to 23-22, forcing Hartford to use its final timeout of the set. Leading 24-23, sophomore Uzezi Ijoma sealed the set with a kill.

SET FOUR: The Big Green regained momentum, jumping out to a 5-1 lead to force a Hartford timeout. Dartmouth built its lead to as much as 12-4 before the Hawks used their final timeout. The deficit proved to be too great to overcome, as the Hawks eventually dropped the set 25-12.

HARTFORD NOTES & HIGHLIGHTS: Lindsay led the way with a team-high 16 kills … Luginbuhl added 12 kills and added eight digs … senior Alex Lucero contributed a team-high 21 digs … sophomore Morgan Galligan compiled a game-high 37 assists… Ellie Blain tallied a game-high 18 kills for the Big Green.
