This can go to BBOB ALULA whose good form this spring has come at about 1m but who should not have a problem back up in trip, having divided subsequent winners in a tight finish over 1m2f at Bath in September. Tawtheef is his most interesting rival, having broken his duck in December and thoroughly proven at the trip. Uther Pendragon is next on the list.

WELCOME TO PADDY POWER NEWS!

C&D winner Party Island has to be taken seriously, with no doubts about his ability to handle these conditions, but MERCIAN HYMNE (nap) is preferred. A dual winner on the AW late last year, he was only just beaten on last month’s Windsor reappearance and, with the return to this trip likely to suit, he can go one better.

The suggestion is FULFILLED, whose turf defeats came in Newmarket races won by Coroebus and Modern Games. He’s a likely improver in these much calmer waters. Nietzsche’s Star (second choice) and Juanita are other interesting handicap newcomers. Progressive AW handicapper Major Gatsby has a good chance provided he’s as effective back on turf, while closely matched rivals Baileys Liberty and Renegade Rose are also in the mix.

Any improvement on his debut effort would bring Cabinet Of Clowns into the equation, while Seascape Girl would also be a contender if ready for this return. Glory And Gold is progressing steadily and seems sure to play a part, but despite proving so disappointing on his return last month ELSALS is given another chance. The promise he showed when a close third on his York debut last autumn still sticks in the mind.

The recent rain is welcome for C&D winner Bonus, but preference is for his stablemate OTAGO who seems to act on most ground. He goes well on a downhill track and has dropped 3lb below his last winning mark. Gherkin has only just been beaten in his last two starts on turf and remains unexposed at the trip, so he could go well.

Grace Angel was a well-held fifth when a market springer at Newmarket but she ran well for a long way in that hot race and sets the standard on that form. She’s respected along with Bath debut winner Byefornow, while there are several interesting newcomers who need watching in the market including Made Of Lir and Yahtzee. However, the vote goes to the Johnston-trained FAVORITE QUEENwho has shown plenty of promise with her two placed efforts and is open to further progress.

T Maxie was an easy winner on her handicap debut at Brighton and the form is proving stronger than looked likely at the time. She holds obvious claims despite her 9lb rise but this will demand more of her and NICKLEBY might be worth chancing in opposition. He has been a shade disappointing since his maiden win but he might be able to lead against the near rail and he’s well treated if anywhere near his best.
