Jonny Wilkinson lined up for Rugby World Cup coaching role – and not by England

France are considering a move to add England legend Jonny Wilkinson to their coaching team ahead of their home Rugby World Cup in 2023.

The 43-year-old set new standards in terms of dedication during his career with an almost obsessive pursuit of perfection.

His finest hour, of course, came in 2003, when he slotted the drop goal that won the World Cup.

The fact he landed it with his weaker right foot speaks volumes for his hours and hours of diligent practice. Bowed out on a high, earning two more trophies with Toulon.

Wilkinson, who worked with England during their run to the 2019 showpiece final, is well respected across the channel with Toulon, and already has a firm grasp on the language.

He’d become the second Englishman on the Les Bleus coaching staff after highly-regarded defense maestro Shaun Edwards join on a long-term deal from Wales.

RUCK sources indicate that talks are in their infantry, but Wilkinson would be open to a short-term role.

He would join the camp next summer to work with the likes of Romain Ntamack to try and give the tournament hosts the edge..
